LONELINESS AND SOCIABILITY IN
OLD AGE
No one is born as orphans in life. But later, some of them become orphans for various reasons.
Old age crisis
If you ask me what
is the most painful social crisis we face today, I would say orphanhood in old
age. Everyone is around: brothers, children, friends, etc. Yet they have to
live like orphans. Those who reach the state of mind where there is no one,
despite all. Sometimes we have to go through that experience if we want to
understand their condition. This is the reality we should be afraid of. Who is
responsible for this?
Neglected old age
Around us, we can
see many old aged people who were abandoned by their children. Some children are
throwing their parents on street and some to the old age homes. Some parents are willingly choosing old age homes. Some of them happily choose it, some because of their helplessness, some parents never like to be a burden on their children. I am not forgetting children who are considering their parents as God and they are caring for their
parents very well.
Horrible loneliness in old age
Some parents become isolated when their children go to different
places in search of work. Who to blame? Children also have family
responsibilities and they have to be able to support that family in many
places. In that family, we also see children who think that father and mother
are a liability. Can't we just say that there will be social justice waiting
for them?
How many people look at you pitifully? Even your laughter will be an oasis for them. There are old aged people who quickly lose their memories without anyone to talk to. If you are making a fuss in your own home, take some time to talk to the orphans in your neighborhood.
In our family and
around us we can see a lot of old people experiencing orphanhood. The joy they
feel when one of us walks up the steps of their house is beyond measure. Look
into your surroundings you can see people who have no one to talk to, no one to
ask questions, and no one to give them a cup of tea when they are sick.
Friends,
love is about sharing. Give a handful of love and a little consideration to the
orphaned elderly people. They will give you back the sea of love and prayer.
